Some Sports Figures Are OK
Charlie Weis gets my vote for being one of the good guys in sports...they are sometimes hard to come by, but the Notre Dame football coach stepped up big time this past weekend in their game against Washington...apparently, he visited a 10-year-old boy with a brain tumor in the days leading up to the game...after talking with him, he asked the boy what play he should call on the first play of the game...the boy said, "Throw right."...the boy ended up dying the day before the game...on the first possession, Notre Dame got the ball on the 1 yard line, so no one would have blamed Weis if he had bailed on his promise, because there are just too many things that can go wrong throwing from your own end zone: your QB can get sacked, you can throw an interception, you can get flagged for holding in the end zone resulting in a safety, etc...but instead, when Weis was asked by his QB what they were going to do, he replied, "We have no choice. We're throwing it to the right."...they did and gained 13 yards on the play, with the young boy's mom watching the game from home...Weis is OK in my book...you can read the full article here...

For decades, every poll taken on the subject lists Notre Dame as the most popular college football team in the country, far, far ahead of the #2 team (which changes every year the survey is taken based on won/lost records).
Notre Dame is college football. Knute Rockne, The Four Horsemen, the Golden Dome, tons of NFL alumni, high academic standards for the players.
To not like Notre Dame is like not liking the colors and design of our flag. It's like not liking Christmas. It's like not liking warm summer days and sunshine. It's like not liking popcorn, hot dogs, lemonade or crusy Italian bread.
Just because something is popular, doesn't make it right or good...sin is really popular, too...

Notre Dame is as far from "sin" as Bob Jones University is from Christianity.
If you want to venture into the area of "sin" when you talk about college sports, then, my son, talk about the sin and shame of Oral Roberts University.
If you want to talk about the living Anti-Christs who walk among us, talk about Pat Robertson and Rush Limbaugh. If Christ were with us now, he would immediately throw, and I mean throw with all of His might, these charlatans out of His temple.
I worry about you. You write that it is better to be a God-hating Communist than a Notre Dame fan. Have you no love of the Lord?
Apparently, tongue-in-cheekness doesn't translate in the written word...Michael, you seem to be taking offense at something I never implied, although you say that it is what I did imply...my implication is that just because something is popular, that doesn't mean it is right or good (just like I typed the last time)...it is an opinion statement, not a value statement...just like sin is popular, but isn't good...just like racism in the 50s was popular, but wasn't good...I was simply saying that it doesn't make it a right or good thing to like Notre Dame football just because they are "the most popular college football team in the country"; it only means they are well-liked...it appears that you hold your esteem for your beloved football team quite highly, and for that I have no problem...just like you should have no problem with me not liking them...
As for your comments about other anti-Christs, I think there is something in the Bible about splinters and planks and one's eye, but I could be wrong (tongue in cheek)...

Okay, I have a thing about altar boys, but that's because my church insists on celibacy for our priests. My Pope says homosexuality is against nature, and yet he insists on celibacy for me and my priest brothers which is about as much against nature as it can get. So I'm reduced to winking my eyes on Sunday at those cute little boys dressed like angels.
To be honest with you, the only time I am really, really happy is for the few seconds right after Notre Dame has scored a touchdown.
