I'm Back!

It's good to know that two of you have noticed my blogging absence and have been concerned about it. That's more than I figured it would be. To return, I thought I would present my On Notice list of things / people that are dead to me:
  • Turn signal non-users: Nothing drives me battier than someone who is driving in front of me and they slow down for no apparent reason...and then they turn! That's what the little stick on the left of the drive shaft is for!
  • Prescription drug commercials: When did they start advertising for prescrip drugs? Sure, they have always advertised for Bayer and such, but a drug for Restless Leg Syndrome? Come on!
  • On-air talent shows: OK, so I watch American Idol, but do we need America's Got Talent? If you judge it by that show - which I admittedly have not watched, but have seen a few clips - no, we don't have talent. And are David Haselhoff and Brandy the ones that should be determining it?
  • Chuck Norris: Why is he popular? Are people trying to make him the next Kevin Bacon? It will never work.
  • Fox Sports football coverage: Just show me the dang game, don't make it sound and look like a blasted video game.
  • Sweetest Day: Just a holiday invented by Hallmark to sell cards. Love you, Marcy!
  • Neckties: The only time I have worn one in the past several years was to preach at my sis-in-law's wedding. Can't stand 'em.
  • Mike Shane: He is the local news anchor in Cape. Marcy and I laugh at him most of the time, because he is ridiculous. His time of usefulness as an anchor is long gone. Yesterday he was commenting on the ears of the Humane Society dog of the day saying that, wouldn't it be great if humans had ears like that? Huh?!?
It's good to be back...

Glad to have you back.

#1 pev-peeve: the infernal cell-phone.It makes driving dangerous even if the driver is using a headphone. It's maddening to sit by someone talking if you are riding public transportation. And,heh, I can understand a call made from a supermarket asking what kind of meat should I bring home. But do you have to be rolling your cart down an aisle while talking about the baseball game you watched last night?

#2 pet peeve: the "I'm saving this seat" phenomenon gone haywire. For example, in a crowded parking lot there is an open space and as I prepare to pull in, I see a 15-year old teenager standing there. You can't park here, he says, I'm saving the spot for someone. Another example, in a crowded picnic area all the tables are taken and have grilles going except one that has only a small picnic basket in the middle with a note saying: this table is taken. No grille going. [The last time I was in such a situation I respectfully put the picnic basket in a corner of the table and our family and kids settled in and I started a grille for the hamburgers. A full hour later this guy comes up and said this table was taken, I put my picnic basket on it this morning. Kindly I replied: we don't honor that convention Sir.

#3 pev peeve: the once a year church goers who take up the space in the front of the church on Christmas and Easter. We usually sit 4 rows from the front and come there every Sunday of the year. So on Christmas, the herd of once a year church goes gets there early to have a good seat and we have to sit in row 67. Not right.

Observed the 3rd Saturday in the month of October, Sweetest Day observance originated in Cleveland in 1922. Herbert Birch Kingston, a philanthropist and candy company employee wanted to bring happiness into the lives of orphans, shut-ins and others who were forgotten. With the help of friends, he began to distribute candy and small gifts to the underprivileged. -- From The Holiday Handbook

OK, so maybe Sweetest Day was started with good intentions. And it definitely adds merit that it was started in Cleveland. But it has been taken over by the evil card-making conglomerate, and it still annoys me. So there...

Great post Fitz, have you noticed how the "talent" shows all have the same format, and judge panel. A rude British Man, a ditzie girl, and some guy who is ADD. As for me add cell phones rining in church. When praying I don't want to hear a 1980's keyboard version of starwars or classical music.

Fitz,

Just because I love messing with you... Christmas has also been exploited for commercial interests... shall we rid outselves of that as well?

seriously though... I love the concept of a holiday specifically for orphans and impoverished. Which is different than the greeting card company version of sweetest day... They might as well call it "Valentines Day II: The Sequel"
